Red Bank High School Art students are installing a large sculpture in downtown Chattanooga. This project was produced and funded by the Open Spaces project and the Tennessee Arts Commission. The purpose of this installation is to use compelling art to attract merchants to several open business sites downtown. The installation that the students created represents diversity and individuality and is formed from decomposed school desks. Each altered desk is one of a kind and has its own unique story. In this project, students focused on the irony that desks are boxy, predictable shapes, often arranged in a linear motif for utility and at the same time are meant to produce people who, “think outside of the box.” To learn more about this project or Art at Red Bank High School please contact Michel Belknap at belknap_m@hcde.
